Special (2017) is a limited-edition giclée print by Lagos-based contemporary artist Sokenu Abayomi. The work is composed of dense, rhythmic blocks of colour that assemble human figures through repetition, texture, and suggestion rather than literal detail.
Abayomi’s distinctive surface language combines short, deliberate strokes with layered hues, creating a visual rhythm that moves fluidly between abstraction and figuration. The figures appear interconnected, structured by both colour and line, evoking themes of human presence, shared experience, and emotional proximity. Rather than presenting a fixed narrative, the composition invites viewers to engage intuitively, reading meaning through balance, movement, and tonal contrast.
Printed on museum-grade Ilford Cotton Textured paper using archival giclée methods, each edition is signed and numbered by the artist. The print faithfully preserves the tactile quality and chromatic depth of the original work.
A quietly powerful piece, Special is well suited to collectors drawn to texture-led abstraction and human-centred contemporary African art.
