Adesuwa Collection II (2022) is a limited-edition giclée print by Nigerian contemporary artist Eghosa Raymond Akenbor, continuing his exploration of identity, femininity, and cultural symbolism through richly textured portraiture.
The composition presents a stylised female figure formed through dense pointillist mark-making, a signature of Akenbor’s practice. Countless small black marks build the surface of the figure, while carefully placed bursts of colour and symbolic motifs animate the composition. These accents suggest inner life, emotional energy, and cultural meaning rather than literal likeness.
The title Adesuwa, drawn from the Benin language, translates to “movement to wealth,” a phrase associated with grace, ambition, and forward momentum. These ideas are embedded throughout the work, where patterned adornments, geometric details, and rhythmic repetition evoke aspiration, dignity, and self-possession. The portrait balances tradition and modernity, celebrating African identity while remaining firmly contemporary in its visual language.
Printed on museum-grade Hahnemühle Photo Rag paper using archival giclée techniques, this signed and numbered edition preserves the depth, texture, and tonal clarity of the original artwork. Adesuwa Collection II is an elegant and symbolic piece, ideal for collectors drawn to contemporary African portraiture that speaks to cultural pride, personal growth, and quiet strength.
