Collection: Artist: Eghosa Raymond Akenbor

Eghosa Raymond Akenbor (b. 1982) is an artist and a former educator residing in Benin City, Nigeria. He obtained his National Diploma in Painting and General Art from Auchi Polytechnic in Edo state, Nigeria, and later pursued a Higher National Degree degree in Education from the National Teacher's Institute in Kaduna, Nigeria.

Having grown up and studied in a historically renowned state, Eghosa developed a passion for exploration and artistic creation. He was particularly drawn to the impressionist art style and the rich cultural heritage of Africa. In his early works, he incorporated African elements in terms of size, shape, and fashion motifs. As a fashion designer, he transitioned to painting clothing and eventually delved into mixed media art and collage making after being inspired by Victor Ekpo in 2015.

Over the years, Eghosa has explored various art techniques and mediums. In 2021, he discovered that his audience resonated with his depictions of figures using pointillism techniques and African symbols against plain backgrounds. His acrylic paintings now capture the delicate beauty of African culture, drawing inspiration from his imagination, immediate surroundings, and influences such as poetry, ancient sculptures, music, and fashion magazines. Through his art, Eghosa aims to tell stories and initiate meaningful conversations, celebrating and uplifting African roots while attracting attention to his work.

Eghosa has participated extensively both home and abroad with his exhibitions reaching enthusiasts in the USA, UK, Switzerland, Italy and even the island of Jamaica. His works have featured in publications, such as The Pomona Valley Review Journal at California State Polytechnic University, USA and both the Slice and SuboArt magazine dedicated to discovering Africa’s emerging talents and leaders.
