Collection: Artist: Oni Balogun

Oni Balogun (b. 1993) is a Lagos-based visual artist whose work explores the intersection of abstraction and figuration through bold geometric forms and rhythmic lines. Drawing inspiration from Cubism and African visual traditions, Balogun reinterprets Afrocentric identity and cultural narratives through a distinctly contemporary lens.

A graduate of Yaba College of Technology, where he studied art and graphic design, Balogun’s practice balances structure and spontaneity - each composition an exploration of harmony within chaos. His work often draws from everyday Nigerian life: nostalgia, socio-economic struggle, humour, and community. Through a process that both simplifies and exaggerates, he invites viewers to see fragments of themselves reflected in his abstracted worlds.

Balogun has exhibited in Lagos, London, New York, and California, with recent shows including The Lagos Salon at Rele Gallery (2024) and Ethereal Essence at Curtiss Jacobs Gallery, New York (2024). His evolving body of work continues to bridge tradition and modernity, pushing the boundaries of form and meaning.
