Odinakachi Okoroafor presents Asa as a limited edition print from his ongoing exploration of Black identity, visibility, and social presence.
Created in 2022, Asa depicts a solitary figure set against a repeating palm-leaf backdrop. The body is constructed from dense layers of line, pattern, and image transfer, referencing both textile traditions and modern systems of classification. The lace-like garment contrasts with the fragmented surface beneath, creating a quiet tension between individuality and communal expectation.
Rooted in Okoroafor’s mixed-media practice, the work reflects themes of agency, exposure, and resilience, rendered with composure rather than spectacle.
This archival giclée print on Ilford Cotton Textured paper preserves the depth, texture, and visual complexity of the original work, offering a tactile, resolved finish suited to considered interiors.
