Toju Clarke Nigerian, b. 1996

Toju Clarke, also known as Clarke Toritseju Favour, is a Nigerian contemporary artist born in 1996. Specializing in digital art and sgrafitto, Clarke's artistic journey led him to explore various mediums before focusing on sgrafitto and digital art in 2017. Influenced by personal experiences with depression, he creates art for mental health awareness, using scratching on fabrics/linen and acrylics as his primary medium.

Drawing inspiration from his father, an impasto painter, Clarke started learning art in secondary school and later pursued Fine Art in 2014. After a gap year of travel and skill development, he returned to Yaba College of Technology in 2018 to study Graphic Design, excelling in student clubs and competitions. His achievements include being a finalist at NSAC and winning Best Graphic/Digital Artist at LIMCAF in 2019.

During the 2020 pandemic, Clarke was selected by Rele Gallery and awarded an artist residency by Nomad Artist. His residency focused on advancing his sgrafitto skills, leading to a public art display in Freedom Park, Lagos. Clarke graduated from Yabatech in 2021 and has since exhibited internationally, including shows in Dakar, Senegal, and London in 2022.

Beyond his art, Clarke engages in community service as a member of The Executive Helping Initiative. Born and currently residing in Lagos, Nigeria, Clarke's studio is located in Bariga.
